Since Christmas is many people’s favorite holiday, indoor Christmas decorations are often highly sought after items after the Thanksgiving holiday passes. Immediately after Thanksgiving, those who celebrate Christmas begin putting up outdoor as well as indoor Christmas decorations.
Many people focus on finding unique Christmas decorations in their never-ending quest to make this Christmas better and more magical than the last. For them, Christmas just isn’t the same without the decorations to go along with it.
Some common indoor Christmas decorations include a nativity scene with all the expected nativity figurines: Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the three wise men, and others one would find in a manger nativity scene for Christmas.
Other indoor decorations include a Christmas tree, stockings hung from the fireplace mantle, and tabletop decorations. The traditional Christmas tree, which originated in Germany in the 16th century and slowly emerged in the United States around 1880, is typically the most intricately decorated Christmas piece in the house. Although most families do not still decorate the tree with candles like was originally the case in Germany, lights and colorful ornaments do the job even better.
Angels, Santa Claus, and various meaningful religious icons are the most common themes for Christmas decorations. Disney is also an emerging theme for indoor Christmas decorations in recent years as people stray away from traditional decorations for a taste of something different and reminiscent of their childhood memories.
Outdoor Christmas are near and dear to many peoples’ hearts as well. In addition to the lights strung on the Christmas tree, outdoor lights lavishly hung on the roof, windows, and in the yard of peoples’ homes make for a bright, colorful display of Christmas spirit that lasts well into the New Year.
Some of the most unique Christmas decorations are those displayed in lights. Many people tour neighborhoods that have a large number of yards with beautifully decorated Christmas lights and scenes that portray Jolly Old Saint Nick, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, snowmen, penguins, and other winter wonders. Some neighborhoods even have light decorating contests and open tours to invite visitors to marvel at the sight of their hard work.
The traditional nativity scene can also be seen in the yards of those who hope to convey the true meaning of Christmas to passersby. A giant manger with large nativity figurines is not an uncommon sight – especially at the front of a church during the holiday season.
